Senior Data Engineer

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will become part of our Global IT department where more than 280 skilled employees are working on delivering the best IT to all business units in Danish Crown, both globally and locally.

You will join the Data, Analytics & AI department, specifically the Enterprise Data Platform team, where we are tasked with the crucial role of building, maintaining and scaling our MS Azure Data Platform and assuring it is constantly ready to deliver quality data to our business stakeholders. Our mission is to ensure seamless data integration and accessibility across the organization, enabling data-driven decision-making and innovation.

Our team is on an exciting journey to scale our Azure Data Platform towards Microsoft Fabric and its supporting technologies. This transition reflects our commitment to modernizing our data infrastructure, enabling more seamless integration, enhanced performance, and unified governance across the data lifecycle. With this approach we aim to simplify data access, accelerate insights, and empower teams with a more agile and scalable foundation for analytics and decision-making.

Your Role
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be at the forefront of our data migration and transformation efforts, having at the same time leading role in building our new enterprise data platform by bringing newest technologies to the table e.g. 

In terms of delivering our data solutions you will have a big exposure to our business teams and stakeholders to gather requirements, understand their needs and help them out in discovering and excavating potential and value that data covers.

In technical aspects you will work closely with other engineers and specialists, Technical Products Owners, enterprise architects, data scientists and other IT departments to ensure scale, upgrade and develop our data platform according to strategy and architectural vision.

Your main responsibilities:

• Lead the development and evolution of Danish Crown’s Enterprise Data Platform – from today’s Azure setup toward a future built on Microsoft Fabric.
• Drive data governance and architectural principles, ensuring scalability, quality, and alignment with our enterprise strategy.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to translate needs into effective, data-driven solutions.
• Design and implement robust ETL/ELT pipelines for both batch and streaming data.
• Champion automation, standardization, and innovation, improving how we manage, integrate, and deliver data.
• Proactively monitor, optimize, and enhance platform performance.
• Represent the team in cross-functional meetings, sharing insights and promoting best practices.

Your primary workplace will be at our headquarters in Randers, with around 10–20 travel days per year to support projects and collaboration across sites.

We are looking for a candidate with 

• Min 5 years of hands-on experience in data engineering using the Microsoft Azure stack (knowledge of Medallion or Fabric Architecture required).
• Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT design, and data governance principles.
• Proven experience in Python, PySpark, SQL, and Git; familiarity with Synapse, ADF, Purview, and Power BI is a plus.
• Perhaps experience with data quality frameworks (e.g., Great Expectations) and cataloging tools such as MS Purview.
• Ability to simplify complex technical problems, develop clean, efficient solutions, and communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• Curious, collaborative, and business-oriented mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.

We work in Agile methodology utilizing SCRUM framework and our team consist of 13 great colleagues covering different areas of expertise – data engineers, DevOps engineers, Scrum master and Technical Product Owner. We are part of a bigger - 50-people department Data, Analytics & AI.
