Butchery Assistant Shift Manager | Bugle

Are you a resilient and ambitious leader looking to step into a pivotal role running production lines, managing yields and driving performance within a thriving food production business?

What you will be doing

As Butchery Assistant Shift Manager, you will play a central role in ensuring the smooth running of our butchery shift, working Monday to Friday from 05:15 to 15:15. Reporting directly to the Shift Manager, you will lead a team, manage daily room planning and step up to cover shift management duties whenever required.

  • Lead and manage the Line 2 team, conduct morning briefings, oversee shift manning and step up to cover the Shift Manager when required.
  • Plan daily room requirements, adjust orders on the PDB system and accurately complete E-Smiley, Factbird, CCP and operational reports.
  • Continually walk the lines, monitor quality, test and challenge yields using P1400 systems and ensure seamless product changeovers.
  • Provide coaching and training, complete return-to-work interviews, build team development plans and assist with recruitment and onboarding.
  • Enforce strict health, safety and food hygiene standards, conduct accident investigations and ensure audit compliance across your area.

What you will bring

We are seeking a proactive leader with a growth mindset who can multitask, remain calm under pressure and take ownership of daily production goals. You will combine hands-on butchery expertise with strong technical knowledge to drive room efficiency and yield performance.

  • Experience: Proven experience in a high-volume butchery or food factory environment, with a strong background in line leadership, shift cover and operational planning.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent leadership and communication abilities, a growth mindset, strong multitasking skills and the composure to remain calm under pressure.
  • Hard Skills: Knowledge of PDB systems and P1400 yield testing, supported by Level 3 Food Safety, Level 2 HACCP and Level 2 or above in English and numeracy.
